An Integrated Approach to HPP and Food Manufacturing Developed Over More Than Two Decades

Built to Address a Specific Problem

In 2004, American Pasteurization Company (APC) was founded to help food producers enhance food safety without compromising freshness or quality. The food industry’s existing preservation methods (sustained heat, synthetic additives, chemical preservatives) were mostly solving the safety problem while creating a quality problem.

Determined to find a better way to protect people and products, the founders of APC, veterans of the food manufacturing industry, turned to high-pressure pasteurization, a non-thermal food preservation method that delivers safe, fresh food without heat, chemicals, or synthetic preservatives.

HPP uses cold water pressure rather than heat to inactivate pathogens including Listeria, E. coli, and Salmonella, without degrading the taste, texture, color, or nutritional profile of the product. The founders saw the technology as transformational and built a business around it.

The original mission has not changed: help food and beverage brands bring products to market that are as safe as they are fresh, without the compromises that traditional preservation methods require.

Expanding Capacity and Capabilities

  1. APC began with a single HPP system in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the distinction of being the first company in the United States to offer HPP tolling services.

  2. APC rapidly expanded its HPP capacity in the years that followed, added premium food manufacturing to its capabilities, opened a second facility on the West Coast to serve brands distributing nationally, and built the Innovation Center in Milwaukee, a dedicated R&D kitchen and packaging validation facility co-located with operating HPP systems. Each step extended what APC could offer customers without requiring them to work with additional partners.

  3. Today APC operates nine HPP systems across two SQF-certified facilities, serving brands that range from single-SKU startups running their first pilot to national CPG companies managing millions of pounds annually.

What We Do Today

APC’s current model is built around a single operational principle: minimize the handoffs that create risk, cost, and delay in food production supply chains.

No other U.S. provider combines the same suite of premium food manufacturing, high-pressure processing, post-process packaging, and cold-chain coordination within a single facility. That integration lets our customers move from production to pasteurized, packaged, retail-ready product without temperature breaks, inter-facility transfers, or scheduling gaps between production and processing that result in costly delays and mistakes.

Our customers count on us for:

  1. HPP services for food manufacturers looking to outsource safely and efficiently

  2. Clean-label food preservation technology that meets retailer and consumer demands

  3. Turnkey food safety solutions that support scale and brand growth

These capabilities help our partners bring safe, fresh, clean-label products to market faster and more reliably.

Our Team

Behind every innovation at APC is a team of long-tenured, highly experienced professionals. Many of the people who run APC’s operations today joined the company at or near its founding in 2004. The team handling your product has seen versions of your challenges before (in HPP process optimization, packaging compatibility, regulatory navigation, and supply chain coordination) across two decades and thousands of SKUs.

Their deep knowledge and unmatched experience in high-pressure technology have made APC a recognized global leader in HPP.

We form lasting partnerships, working side by side with food producers to help them deliver premium products that are safer, fresher, and better for everyone. Many of our partnerships have run for a decade or more.
